Task 5: Meeting the client brief
Learning Outcome 4: Be able to carry out post-production techniques and processes for an original media product to a client brief. (D1)
The client brief asked me to produce a new music magazine for North London. I chose to create a magazine based on the Grime genre as I felt it is an up and coming genre in the area specified in the client brief. When thinking about the client brief and how it says that there is a vibrant music scene in the area and people need to know about it, I set out to create a magazine front cover and double page spread to meet these requirements. When I envisage the Grime genre I usually connote it with dark colours which is contrasting to the vibrant scene in the area, this is why i manipulated the effects of the original photo that i had taken to change it to black and white to match what i felt conveyed the Grime in genre in the best way.

I used a young, up and coming Grime artist from North London as the main image and feature of this magazine as it links to the brief when it mentions up and coming music scene in the North London area because he is portraying everything the brief required me to create. As well as using the main image to relate to the client brief i also created meaning through the text and colours that i used. The human eye is attracted to the colour red so when it is seen by the public, it will instantly capture there attention through the use if this bright and vibrant colour. Also the colour red connotes power, determination, passion, desire and love which are all featured actions and emotions in this type of music and are conveyed through the song lyrics. the use of black and white is to juxtapose with each other for example white connotes innocence where as black conveys evil and dark emotions. I created a masthead using photoshop to expertly let the public know that there is a new specialised music magazine based on the North London area on the market. I edited a street sign of a random street in North London and placed my masthead over it. This was to show that the magazine is about the North London area and that starts with the creation of the masthead and the reason why it looks like it does. I called it 'NL VIBES' because it relates to the area that the magazine is based on and it shows that there is an up and coming feel good music scene in the area as connoted by the word 'VIBES'.
These colours were used to give contrasting meaning to the genre of the magazine. To change the image from when i changed it to black and white i clicked the image tool, then clicked adjustment, black and white. I then enlarged the image and centred it on the page so it was acting as the main image. Also, either side of the cover lines I inserted black boxes using the the shape tall to give the headlines more focus and to make it stand out. I also used the same tool to create a circled background for the puff. I changed the colour from white to red using the colour change tool to highlight the key features of the magazine on the front cover.

For my double page spread to look professional I cropped the main image out of the background that it was already on using the lasso tool because the background didn't suit the idea i had in mind of showing the artist in one on the big music venues in North London. I wanted to do this because the brief asked me to create a new music magazine portraying the up and coming music scene in the area so by showing one of the major venues in my magazine and mentioning some on them in the article I wrote and that was said in the interview this shows the music scene in North London is growing.
I put drop shadow effect on all text that i used on my front cover and Double Page Spread to make everything that the audience is going to read much clearer and help them see what the music scene is currently like in North London. I also used the same font throughout so the magazine won't lack consistency as i wanted to portray what i was asked to do in the best way possible and that is by keeping the font type fitting throughout. The double Page Spread that i created meets the client brief as it is all about and up and coming Grime artist from the North London area so it conveys an up and coming vibrant music scene and it features an interview that mentions and asks questions about the area frequently and how it plays a part on the artists life and that he performs his music in this area. These questions were asked to keep in tone with the rest of the magazine. I gave the artist the stage name 'YUNG SWEDE' to show that there are up and coming artists in the up and coming music scene of North London swell as there being more frequently used venues in the area that are being vacated by some of the biggest artists around. I purposely left out the letter 'O' in young to give the artist an enigma and let the audience think why his name is spelt like it is. Also, it shows that his stage name is relating to the genre of music that he performs and grime music is know for having close, dry sound with a fast paced tempo.
