Task 2- Legal and Ethical issues

Task 2: Plan and develop pre-production materials

Learning Outcome 2: Be able to plan and develop pre-production materials for an original media product to a client brief. (P3&M2)

Legal and Ethical issues that impact production of the media product

During the production of my media product their are many legal and ethical issues for myself to consider. The age rating for my magazine is for anyone over the age of 15 as my target audience is male and females aged 15- 30 years old so the consumer content that i am going to use is not for those under the age of 15. Some of the content would need to be approved by the people working at the ASA. Although the age rating is for those over the age of 15, the language used can be quite lenient compared to if it was for anyone under the age of 15. I still have to watch what i write in terms of not discriminating against anyone. Also the magazine cannot include false information or content that will affect people's judgments and ways of thinking. The magazine content should not be copy righted from a similar magazine nor should it leak any information because this would be going against the act of privacy and eliminate the element of surprise most artists like to have when they are about to release a song or album. They like to have this so other artists don't steal their ideas. Employers will often need to sign a confidentiality agreement form when working on a project. This act was created in 1991 for employers not to leak information to the public. Information cannot be broadcasted without the agreement of this act and without the artists consent.

Trademarks are used by a business or company to define the company and makes it stand out from all the other company's, making it unique.  If something is trademarked by another company then it can not be used again otherwise it would fall into copyright laws. Also issues such as exploitation and representation should be considered because it is morally wrong to take advantage of someone who has agreed to work on a project with you and it is wrong if they are misrepresented and if facts and opinions about them are wrong. Also if they are doing an interview for your magazine and you are writing an article of the interview, it is wrong to misrepresent their speech and edit what they say because then it becomes inaccurate, untruthful and unfaithful.
